Digital art is no new practice, but it has become seemingly more accessible throughout time. As of right now, creators are limited to gaining recognition for their work. Social media seems to be the most reliant way for digital artists to receive credit for their work. I agree with the article when it comes to top artists "gatekeeping" digital art awards. It is no longer a high-class medium and should not be treated as such. Critiquing digital art can be difficult because it encapsulates so many different forms of it through graphic design to virtual reality. Although, there are already separate awards for non-digital art mediums so it does not make sense why it isn’t the same for digital art.
Digital artists need to receive the recognition they deserve today due to the rise of the NFT market. The NFT market is very important for these artists because it allows their work to be sold. Most forms of digital art cannot be printed and sold on hardcopy. Selling it via digital file though will allow the artists to enter the art market. Especially with the rise of VR worlds like Facebook Meta, the digital art market will be very important in the future. With VR worlds virtual museums and galleries will become more available for the general public. It is important for more underground artists to receive the awards they deserve. All digital artists deserve rewards and the way rewards work at the moment needs to be changed to become more open.
