About Me

I am currently a senior at the University of Colorado Boulder studying Geography, with a minor in Geology and Art Practices. My main focus is in Photography although I enjoy branching out in digital forms in art. Growing up I never had a clear way of self-expression until I picked up a camera in high school. I quickly learned about my creative side and appreciation for art. As an artist, I love to bring my love of nature into it because I believe many people today need to appreciate it more. Nature to me is the world's most true form of art. The world contains unlimited amounts of pieces that take hundreds to millions of years to make. I use this appreciation in my work to help others understand how amazing the world is. Climate Change is all we hear about it today and only certain groups get involved. I believe through my art I can help convince people the world is a beautiful place and it requires more love.

PROJECT 4

Out of all the projects I have done this semester, this one was the biggest pain. As cool as it is to make art in a VR format, I really struggled with Glitch. This program was way too buggy for my liking resulting in many delays in my creative process. But, in the end, I do enjoy how this piece came out. For this project, I wanted to critique what could be this whole movement into the virtual world through Metaverse. Ready Player One and The Matrix were big inspirations for this project because they are all based around a virtual world. My main goal for this piece is to encapsulate a possible future in VR. I believe at some point VR tech will be so good, we are better off living in it. And for entertainment, we look at what the real world used to be. To encapsulate this, I wanted to make it obvious that the user was in a virtual world which is why I pulled the matrix code effect as all the surfaces and the world itself. Then, I made a table and TV in Blender to set up viewing screens of ordinary people living their ordinary lives. Lastly, I put a moon texture on a cube to put in the sky. I kept it as a cube to keep the virtual world effect and I used it to symbolize that this is a new time period. Overall I am glad on how it came out and found it unique that people interpreted this as the world is a simulation which fits into my idea of a possible future.

PROJECT 3

As this was the very time I have projection-mapped I was a little overwhelmed and scared to be showing off my first project in a museum. Although, when I realized we were gonna use the space around us and not specific objects I felt more relieved. When approaching this project I learned my theme needs to be solidified. For this project, I took the approach towards climate change because it is something I am passionate about, and believe it can be very visual. For my visuals, I grabbed many videos that showed stats, real-time effects of climate change, and capitalist practices that hurt the environment. Then, for my audio, I grabbed a clip about false promises from people in positions in power. I believe when these came together they made a strong case about how climate change is an issue but not much is happening. The piece I projected on I thought was perfect for my project because it looked very natural. I included a visual model of global temperatures rising as the background and in the little leaves, I was able to include my other videos as things that influence the background. Altogether, I think this piece came out great, and was excited to show it in public art space.

PROJECT 2

My second project in blender has taught me how easy it is to be overwhelmed in Blender due to the free creative control the user has. Working on this piece I was overwhelmed approaching how to create certain aspects of this piece. I went into this wanting to create a scene. A scene that captured a moment of peace and relaxation. What I imagined while thinking of this scene was a person at a bus stop alone in the rain surrounded by warm light. Due to the lack of experience and time I had to use some 3D models to create my vision. I found the people models to be a little too realistic and uncanny for my liking so I decided to go with a baby Yoda model. This decision changes how my piece can be looked at. The mood is still there but now it seems to tell a story about an alien child in the city. Something I wanted in this scene was it to be much more immersive. This mostly included the rain interacting with the scene through splashing on the ground and surfaces. Unfortunately, due to my skill level, it would have been difficult to complete in time so I had to decide on not including it. Although, this is my second project and the first one I had to guide myself through. I do believe I did well and has shown me how much is possible in Blender.

PROJECT 1

For my first project in blender, I was overwhelmed. So much freedom for creativity yet such a large skill gap. It can intimidate an artist. Although, the tutorial to follow was very informative and pretty easy to follow. After completing this project, I was blown away by how much work is required for a simple like a fish swimming in a bowl. While there could have been easier ways to accomplish this task, this was taught me many skills in Blender. My biggest struggle during this project was the fish. I was not a fan of the sculpting mode because I felt limited due to my free-hand skills which prohibited me from putting my idea into creation. Also, I struggled with the vertices because they are such small details that need delicate adjustments to use. Something that I did enjoy about this is being able to animate the fish to swim. I found it very cool that I had total control of its movements and it made the most sense to me because I enjoy using premiere pro. So using keyframes was not anything new for me. In the end, I am proud of what I have done for my first project in blender and I am excited to see what I can do with it in the future.
